Wildfires Cancel Men's Basketball on Saturday vs. Westmont

Due to fires burning in Ventura County, Saturday’s men’s basketball game between Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Westmont College has been cancelled. The fires forced an evacuation order of the Westmont campus on Sunday and as a result, Saturday’s game has been cancelled.

Banana Slugs Slow Down Stags on Sunday

Playing in their second game in as many days, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s basketball team dropped a hard-fought, 84-76 overtime game against the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. Off the bench, Nicolas Segura (CMC) and Jeremy Horn (CMC) led the Stags with big nights on both ends of the floor. Segura finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double while Horn finished with a team-high 17 points.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball team had to mount a second-half comeback to top the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 60-52 on Saturday night in the Rains Center on Pomona's campus. The Athenas trailed 30-23 after a tough shooting first-half, but CMS responded in the second-half and claimed the eight-point victory in the Sixth Street rivalry game.

The Stags came away with a tight, 72-67 victory in the Sixth Street rivalry on Saturday night. The Stags opened up a 12-point, 40-28 lead at the half before Pomona-Pitzer battled back early in the second-half to tie the game. The Sagehens ended up taking a 55-50 lead midway through the second-half, but the Stags fought their way back late to claim the five-point victory.

Athenas Claim Victory Over Bulldogs from Free Throw Line

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s basketball team scrapped and clawed their way to a 58-55 victory in Roberts Pavilion on Wednesday night. The Athenas held a slim 21-20 lead at the half, before both offenses started to get it going in the second-half. CMS earned the victory thanks to 17 free throw attempts in the fourth-quarter. The Athenas went 11-17 from the charity stripe in the final quarter to seal the deal and move to 2-0 in the SCIAC.

Bulldogs Edge Stags Late, Take SCIAC Opener

The Redlands Bulldogs used a strong second-half to push past the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s basketball team 72-67 on Wednesday night. Michael Scarlett (CMC) led the Stags with 17 points in the game, including eight in the first-half to help CMS build a 32-20 lead at the break. Following halftime the Bulldogs shot 55.6% from the field and connected on 17 free throws to overcome the 12-point deficit at the half and claim the conference victory.
