The No. 11 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team claimed the second leg of SCIAC play with a two-day total of 585 (+9) at the SCIAC #2 at Brookside Golf Club this weekend. After shooting a seven-over, 79 on Saturday, Johnny Brandt (CMC) turned in the best round in the field with a six-under, 66 on Sunday to finish one-shot behind the leader with a two-day total of 145 (+1). In the team standings, the Stags held a two-stroke lead heading into Sunday's play. Despite shooting five shots higher than they did on Saturday, the Stags increased their lead when it was all said and done and won the tournament by eight strokes over second-place La Verne. CMS finished the weekend with 585 (+9) strokes while La Verne ended with a two-day total of 593 (+17).

Athenas Top SCIAC At Second Leg of Conference Play

Over the weekend, the No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team claimed the second leg of SCIAC play by winning the SCIAC #2 Tournament with a two-day total of 609 (+33). After shooting a 301 (+13) on Saturday, the Athenas carded a 308 (+20) on Sunday to top the seven-team field by 18 strokes. Margaret Loncki (CMC) and Mira Yoo (CMC) led the Athenas on the weekend with identical rounds of 74 (+2) and 77 (+5) to shoot a tournament total of 151 (+7) to finish in a tie for second-place.

Athenas Tame Tigers, Remain Atop SCIAC Standings

The No. 22 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team scored early and often to defeat the Occidental Tigers in a Senior Day showdown between the top two teams in the SCIAC. The Athenas built a comfortable 12-2 lead at the end of the first-half before taking care of business in the second-half for the 18-6 victory. Emily Cohen (CMC), Evan Murphy (CMC), Lauren Clubb (CMC), and Sally Abel (CMC) lead the offense with three goals each in the win.

4x100 Meter Relay Makes History at Pomona-Pitzer Invite

The No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field continued their successful season on Saturday when they crossed the street to compete at the 2018 Pomona-Pitzer Invitational. New CMS records were set in the 4x100 meter relay and the hammer throw. In the 4x100 meter relay, Sabrine Griffith (CMC), Danielle Honan (CMC), Nirel JonesMitchell (CMC), and Tyra Abraham (SC) shattered the school record by almost half a second. Their time of 46.82 set not only a new CMS record, but a new SCIAC record as well. It is the top time in Division III this season.

No. 6 Stags Sweep No. 8 Golden Gusties and Poets on Perfect Saturday

The No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team opened a Saturday doubleheader with a 9-0 victory over the No. 8 Gustavus Adolphus Golden Gusties at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. CMS followed up their sweep from the morning with another 9-0 victory in the afternoon, topping SCIAC foe Whittier in the second-half of their doubleheader. The Stags stayed perfect in eight doubles matches played in three duals over two days, and improve their season dual match doubles record to a collective 59-13.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s track and field team crossed the street to take part in the 2018 Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday and came away with two top Division III marks are the meet.

Athenas Overwhelm Poets for 9-0 Victory on Saturday

The No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s tennis team overwhelmed Whittier on Saturday morning with a 9-0 sweep of the Poets. CMS dropped a total of 14 games across all nine matches on Saturday. Three doubles victories were highlighted by an 8-0 sweep by Madison Shea (CMC) and Jessie Cruz (CMC) in the second doubles match. In singles play, Lauren Yamagami (CMC), Shea, and Caroline Cox (CMC) each earned 6-1, 6-0 victories to lead CMS to the clean sweep in the match.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team earned their eighth conference win of the season on Saturday after edging La Verne 11-7. The Athenas scored three goals in each of the final three quarters and were led by a strong four-goal performance from Jessica Gaffney (CMC). Aracelia Aldrete (CMC), Roxy Kiessling (CMC), and Amelia Ayala (CMC) each scored twice.

The first half of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball’s doubleheader on Saturday started with a bang as the Athenas run-ruled the Poets, winning 11-3 in five innings. Rachel Perley’s (HMC) first-career big fly added to the excitement as Anna Gurr (CMC) earned her 11th victory of the season. In Game Two, late errors spoiled the sweep for CMS and the Athenas fell 3-2.

Late Runs Push Sagehens Past Stags in Both Ends of Doubleheader

On Saturday, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team dropped a pair of heart-breaking losses against Pomona-Pitzer by scores of 10-9 and 11-9. The Stags held the lead in both games, but the Sagehens put crooked numbers on the board in the late innings to come from behind in both games to complete the series sweep. On the day, Chase Eller (CMC) and CJ Novogradac (CMC) led the offense for CMS. Eller went 6-9 on the day with three RBI, a home run, and a double while Novogradac was 4-8 with a pair of doubles, a home run, and four RBI.

Stags Pick Up 7-2 Road Win Against No. 13 Redlands

The No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis defeated a short-handed Redlands squad on Friday, improving to 3-0 in SCIAC and 19-3 overall. Playing with only five players, the host Bulldogs were forced to forfeit matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. CMS capitalized on the 2-0 advantage, sweeping the remaining two doubles positions before taking three straight-set singles matches at Nos. 3-5.

Athenas Breeze Past No. 25 Redlands

The No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned their 18th win of the season after breezing past No. 25 Redlands in a SCIAC matchup on Friday afternoon. The Athenas opened up a 3-0 lead at the end of doubles, before dropping just seven games across six singles matches. Rebecca Berger (CMC) and Madison Shea (CMC) dropped just one game each in their singles matches, while Jessie Cruz (CMC) and Anastasia Bryan-Ajania (SC) earned perfect, 6-0, 6-0 victories at #4 and #5 singles, respectively.

Stags Fall Just Short in Extra-Inning Battle with Pomona-Pitzer

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team fought hard into extra innings before falling to rival Pomona-Pitzer 6-5 in 10 innings. The Stags answered two early Pomona-Pitzer runs with three runs of their own to take the lead in the third. CMS added to their lead with an RBI single by CJ Novogradac (CMC) in the bottom of the fifth, but the Sagehens scored three across the seventh and eighth innings to take a 5-4 lead.

When choosing a college, I primarily wanted to go to a school that would challenge me and prepare me for life after school. At the same time, I just couldn’t see myself giving up my identity as a tennis player, so Division III was the obvious option that would allow me to fulfill both of these desires.
