Dear 13 year old Kail, Do you believe that everything happens for a reason? There's a saying that goes, "when one door closes, another one opens." But I know you, K, you're a perfectionist. Everything has to go a certain way or you get flustered. So flustered that you might not see which doors are open for you. Yes, yes, at 13 years old you have already perfected your nonchalant, super quiet personality, but on the inside I know you're freaking out when the littlest thing changes.

Swimming is a part of my identity. When asked about myself, saying that I’m a swimmer is second only to my name. This is why the thought of being a “swammer” is so terrifying: even after 16 years of competitive swimming, I am not ready to move on.

Stags Score Two in Ninth, Walk-Off Spartans on Wild Pitch

The Stags trailed the visiting Castleton Spartans 3-2 heading to the bottom of the ninth. CMS scored a pair of runs in the frame to earn a thrilling, 4-3 comeback victory. Kevin Nakahara (HMC) pulled a ball through the right side to tie the game and moments later a wild pitch scored pinch runner Deji Andrew (HMC) from third to give CMS the victory. Chase Eller (CMC) went 3-4 at the dish and scored a run to lead the offensive effort for the Stags. CJ Novogradac (CMC), Sean Emery (CMC), and Nakahara each drove home runs for the Stags in the win.

The No. 9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team opened the 2018 portion of their schedule this weekend against the SCIAC at Olivas Golf Links. The Stags tied for the team title with La Verne after shooting a two-day total of 580 (+4). Redlands and California Lutheran finished within five strokes of the Stags and Leopards after recording scores of 581 and 584, respectively. The tournament is the first leg of SCIAC play, with the scores combining with the team scores at the SCIAC #2 Tournament and the SCIAC Championship Tournament for the overall SCIAC Championship.

2018 Campaign Begins at UC Davis for Women's Lacrosse

On Sunday afternoon, the No. 22 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s lacrosse team opened the 2018 season on the road against UC Davis. The Athenas hung with the Aggies throughout the game, but UC Davis used a big second-half to claim the 13-6 victory. CMS freshmen accounted for five of the six goals the Athenas scored on the afternoon. Sally Abel (CMC) scored three goals on three shots to lead the Athenas’ offense on the day. Abel also picked up four ground balls and won three draw controls.

Huge Lead Helps Athenas Claim Share of SCIAC Championship

Needing a victory over Chapman on Saturday night to claim a share of the 2017-18 SCIAC Championship, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s basketball team played some of their best basketball of the season for the first three quarters to build a massive, 56-30 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Despite a late push by the Panthers, CMS held on down the stretch for the 67-58 win.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team used a big second half to come from behind and take down the Chapman University Panthers on Saturday after celebrating Senior Night. Kendrick Morris (CMC) led both the offense and the defense, notching a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Michael Scarlett (CMC) dropped 18 points and Scott Lynds (CMC) added 14.

The Athenas had an impressive showing at the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers meet, with multiple top-ten finishes and two Athenas winning their event. Tyra Abraham (SC) led the effort for the Athenas, winning the 100 meter and was the top collegiate finisher in the 200 meter. Emily Basset (CMC) had a great showing, placing second in the shot put (11.93m) and discus (38.66m) before winning the hammer throw with a toss of 55.28m.

fter topping the Caltech Beavers 11-5 on Friday afternoon, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team claimed a pair of victories on Saturday to sweep the season opening three-game SCIAC series against Caltech. The Stags took the first game on Saturday by a narrow 4-3 margin before notching a convincing 12-3 win in the nightcap.

Two big innings at the plate gave the Athenas enough offense to run-rule Whittier College in Game One of Saturday's doubleheader. CMS scored three in the first and six in the fourth for a 9-0 final in five innings. Molly Spaniac (CMC), Chloe Amarilla (CMC), and Kawai Scanlan (SC) all collected two hits and Amarilla and Carly Roleder (CMC) each knocked in two. The Poets quieted the Athenas' offense in game two and forced extra innings before taking Game Two 2-1.

The No. 3 Athenas cruised their way to a pair of 9-0 sweeps on Friday. First the Athenas took care of San Diego Christian this afternoon before disposing of Colorado College under the lights of the Biszantz Family Tennis Center to complete Friday’s doubleheader. Against San Diego Christian, CMS dropped a total of 22 games across the nine matches en route to the sweep. CMS was even better in their second match of the day, dropping just 15 games against the Tigers.

Friday Double-Dip Yields Two Victories for Stags

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned two emphatic victories on Friday, defeating No. 12 (NAIA) San Diego Christian and D3 West Region opponent Colorado College by 7-2 and 9-0 scores. The Stags swept the doubles in both dual matches and won three singles matches without losing a game. These were the final two dual matches before CMS heads to the ITA D3 National Team Indoor Championships in St. Peter, Minnesota where they will begin play next Friday as the No. 2 seed.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team opened the SCIAC Season with an 11-5 victory over the Caltech Beavers on Friday afternoon. Caltech took a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third, but CMS scored the next nine runs to take a 9-2 advantage. Things got a little dicey as the Beavers scored three times in the top of the seventh, but the Stags held on and escaped further damage.

The Athenas’ bats came alive on Friday afternoon in a 7-0 shutout over the Linfield Wildcats. Four Athenas had multi-hit games including Reeve Grobecker (CMC) who led the charge going 4-4 at the dish. Anna Gurr struck out eight in her second win of the season. The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team avenged their two losses to Linfield last season with overpowering offense and a dominating performance in the circle from Gurr.
