Scarlett Drops 32 to Lead Stags in Sixth Street Victory

Michael Scarlett (CMC) went off for 32 points in a 72-60 victory for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s basketball team over the rival Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Wednesday night. After a slow start for both teams, the Stags started pulling away early in the second-half and led by as many as 17 points late, before claiming their second victory over the Sagehens this season. The victory extends the Stags’ winning streak to 10 games. In addition to Scarlett’s stellar night, Kendrick Morris (CMC) finished the contest with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.

Softball Gears Up for 2018 Season

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team will head into the 2018 season tomorrow afternoon with a mix of All-SCIAC returners along with a slew of newcomers, including first-year head coach Gina Oaks Garcia. After a non-conference game against Lewis & Clark College to kick off the season, the Athenas jump right into conference play with a doubleheader at La Verne on Saturday.

She's On Fire! Severt Pops Off for 28 in Sixth Street Showdown

Two and a half minutes was all Kailee Severt (CMC) needed to turn Thursday’s Sixth Street rivalry game on its head. The Athenas held a 34-31 lead at the end of the first-half, but Severt knocked down four threes in the first two minutes and change of the second-half to quickly give CMS a comfortable lead. After the three-point barrage, the Athenas cruised to the 76-51 victory over the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens. Severt led all scorers on the night with an ultra-efficient, 10-13 shooting performance for 28 points in just three quarters of play. The senior did not appear in the fourth quarter as the Athenas already held a 62-47 lead heading into the final period.

Big Inning Downs the Stags in Arizona

The Redlands Bulldogs scored nine times in the bottom of the third and while the Stags battled throughout the game, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team was unable to comeback and Redlands held on for the 14-9 victory. Patrick Gavin (CMC) got CMS on the board in the top of the second with a two-run homer to left center for his second career home run in just five games.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team earned their first victory of the season in Friday’s home opener. The Athenas battled the Lewis & Clark College Pioneers and came away with a 2-0 win. Molly Spaniac (CMC) tallied her first collegiate hit while Anna Gurr (CMC) went the distance in the circle for her first win of the season.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s golf team is set to tee it up in the 2018 season tomorrow when they take on Pomona-Pitzer in the annual Walker Cup. After a successful fall season, the Athenas are ready for a strong 2018 spring season.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team began SCIAC play on Saturday with a doubleheader against the reigning conference champions, the University of La Verne Leopards. In the rematch of last season's SCIAC Championship Game, the Leopards rallied from behind late to take Game One 5-3. A three-run big fly from Carly Roleder (CMC) was all the Athenas needed in Game Two behind a complete-game shutout from Chloe Amarilla (CMC) as CMS went on to win 3-0 to split the day.

2018 Season Opens with Convincing Victories over NAIA Foes

The No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team opened the 2018 season with a pair of 8-1 victories on Saturday. CMS defeated No. 10 (NAIA) Arizona Christian on Saturday morning, before topping No. 13 (NAIA) Westmont by an identical 8-1 score. In both matches, the Stags won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles play and then swept all six matches to earn the 8-1 victories. Twelve Stags earned straight set singles victories, while five doubles teams were also victorious on opening day.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team continued their weekend trip to Arizona with an offensive onslaught against the Sul Ross St. Lobos on Saturday night. The Stags scored 10 runs in the third inning and cruised to an 18-6 victory. Chase Eller (CMC) and Henri Levenson (CMC) highlighted the offensive effort for the Stags, combining for nine RBI.

Mitchell and Stags Walk-Off Comets to Wrap Arizona Trip

February 11, 2018

Brandon Mitchell (CMC) knocked an RBI ground rule double to score Patrick Gavin (CMC) in the bottom of the tenth inning to give Claremont-Mudd-Scripps a 9-8 walk-off win over Texas-Dallas on Sunday morning. The Stags held an 8-1 lead midway through the game, but the Comets scored seven runs across the seventh and eighth innings to force extra innings.
