The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swimming and diving teams wrapped up the 2017 National Championship with the Athenas in 21st and the Stags finishing 14th. CMS was the highest-finishing program from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at the meet.

At the end of a long week for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team, junior ace Anna Gurr (CMC) still had the legs to throw a no-hitter against Whittier on Saturday afternoon. CMS (7-11, 5-3) and Whittier (10-10, 6-4) split the series with CMS earning the 3-0 win initially with the Poets taking game two, 5-1. The Athenas were dealt a sweep by Ithaca on the day prior, losing 5-0 and 6-3.

Under the midday sun on Saturday, the No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s tennis team defeated No. 3 Bowdoin in a rematch with the team that ended their season last year. The Athenas emerged the victors in the regular season dual match, 6-3.

Clutch performances on the third day of the Division III NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships earned points for both the men’s and women’s teams for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Athenas are in 19th place at 36 points while the Stags sit in 14th with 57 points.

Despite playing its third game in three days and facing windy conditions, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s lacrosse team grinded through a narrow 5-4 victory over No. 15 Amherst (2-2) on Friday afternoon to conclude its east coast trip.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s tennis team (9-0) earned their first win over an NCAA Division I program on Wednesday afternoon in the 7-2 victory over Lehigh University (3-4). The Mountain Hawks took just one point off the Athenas in each the doubles and singles competition while CMS dominated overall.

Swimmers in two events qualified from the morning session to compete in the finals on the second day of the NCAA Championships for men's and women's swimming and diving. Senior Matthew Williams (CMC) placed third in the 100-yard butterfly (47.80) with a new CMS record. Then, the women's 400-yard medley relay of freshmen Jocelyn Crawford (CMC) and Claire Bacon-Brenes (SC) with seniors Stephanie Doi (CMC) and Kelly Ngo (CMC) bested their time from the SCIAC Championships and placed 11th at 3:47.47 to close out the evening.
