Basketball (Athenas)

Conference play began for the Athenas (4-3, 1-0) with a 75-32 home win over Pomona-Pitzer on Nov. 30. Three days later, Westmont visited Roberts Pavilion and handed CMS a 62-49 nonconference loss, the first home loss of the season for CMS. Against Pomona-Pitzer, 16 Athenas scored. Junior Kailee Severt (CMC ’18) posted 13 points and seven rebounds against Westmont and senior Kris Brackmann (CMC ’17) added 11 points and seven rebounds. Just out of the gates, the Athenas are tied with Whittier atop the SCIAC standings. A road game at Occidental on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 5 p.m. is next up for the Athenas.

Basketball (Stags)

CMS (5-0) had a dominant showing in its lone game of the week. The Stags defeated San Diego Christian 90-62 on Dec. 2 at Roberts Pavilion behind a team-high, 19-point, seven-rebound effort from junior Michael Scarlett (CMC ’18). CMS shot the ball efficiently, shared the ball (22 assists) and outrebounded San Diego Christian 36-18 to aid in the win. Conference play begins this week at Whittier on Friday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.

Swim & Dive (Athenas)

At the three-day Winter Invite, Dec. 2-4, CMS had one time that cracked into the program’s all-time top-10. The top-10 time came in the 100-yard breaststroke, when freshman Claire Bacon-Brenes (SCR ’20) finished both the prelims (1:06.51) and the finals (1:05.93) with the second-fastest time in the field. Her time in the event is the eighth-fastest in the history of the Athena program. The team now has a break from competition until the new year. On Friday, Jan. 6, part of the CMS team travels to Cal Baptist for the annual distance meet. The next day, Saturday, Jan. 7, the Athenas continue SCIAC dual-meet competition by hosting Chapman. Diving begins at 10 a.m. followed by swimming at 11 a.m.

Swim & Dive (Stags)

CMS closed out the 2016 portion of its schedule with the three-day Winter Invite from Dec. 2-4. CMS had a number of standout performances over the weekend, including freshman Henry Limm (HMC ’20), who was CMS’ lone top-finisher in the finals. He won the 400-yard individual medley, posting a time of 4:07.43 in the prelims and 4:08.60 in the finals. He also had the fastest time on the men’s side in the 200 breaststroke at 2:07.32. The team now has a break from competition until the new year. On Friday, Jan. 6, part of the CMS team travels to Cal Baptist for the annual distance meet. The next day, Saturday, Jan. 7, the Stags continue SCIAC dual-meet competition by hosting Chapman. Diving begins at 10 a.m. followed by swimming at 11 a.m.
