Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is joining NCAA Division III programs nationwide to celebrate the impact of athletics and student-athletes on college campuses. From April 3-9, CMS will be sharing videos that document just a few of the hundreds of stories about why our student-athletes play DIII.

All four winter teams give CMS points in Learfield Directors' Cup standings

After the completion of winter sports, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps sits at 16th nationally in the Division III Learfield Directors' Cup, as released on March 30. All four winter teams placed in the top-25 in NCAA postseason competition. CMS is additionally the highest ranked program from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Stags score 12 in final two innings to take down Bulldogs

Despite the rough start to the weekend series against the University of Redlands, dropping the first two games 12-0 and 4-1, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team managed to string an incredible 12-run comeback in the final game of the series against the Bulldogs to win 18-15.

Another 9-0 sweep for Athenas

After the huge 8-1 win vs. Middlebury the day before, the No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s tennis team (16-0) returned to the courts on Saturday, April 1 for a 9-0 blowout win against No. 28 Whitman (10-6). The Athenas demonstrated their depth by playing four different athletes than competed in the previous match.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps track program won out the second SCIAC Multi-Dual in dramatic fashion on Saturday, as several Stags and Athenas set personal bests to put their team ahead.

No. 1 Emory sends Stags home with second loss

April 02, 2017

The No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis team suffered its second loss in as many days, falling to No. 1 Emory 7-2 in the final of three weekend matches in Texas. Due to severe thunderstorms, the match was moved from Austin to indoors in New Braunfels, and CMS provided little resistance against the reigning National Indoor champs.

Second consecutive softball sweep

April 01, 2017

For the second time in as many Saturdays, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team earned a sweep of a SCIAC opponent and maintained second place standing in the conference. CMS (12-12, 10-4) won both games against Chapman (13-11, 7-7) to the tune of 4-2. The Athenas out-hit the Panthers 15-7 while junior Anna Gurr (CMC) struck out 11 in nine innings pitched.

Saturday’s doubleheader highlighted by first SCIAC win

There were plenty of positive takeaways for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team on Saturday, as the Athenas (7-17, 1-3) split their weekend doubleheader with a 16-9 victory over Occidental College (5-17, 0-5) and an 11-8 loss to Hartwick (17-7, 1-0).

No. 4 Middlebury hands Stags first loss of 2017

No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps’ sixteen match winning streak came to an end on Saturday, as No. 4 Middlebury defeated the men’s tennis team 6-3 in a rain delayed match in Austin. Playing without senior captain Glenn Hull (CMC), CMS got two wins from senior Alex Brenner (CMC) at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

The high winds had no effect on the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s lacrosse team as the Athenas (9-1, 5-0) prevailed in a tough 15-11 victory over Colorado College (11-2, 0-0) on Saturday afternoon.

Stags finish strong again, defeat No. 15 Trinity

The No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis team completed yet another come-from-behind victory by beating No. 15 Trinity University 6-3 in San Antonio, to open up a three-day, three dual match Texas road trip on Friday. CMS was swept in doubles but came back to win every singles match and pull away from the Tigers.

Athenas roll past Middlebury 8-1

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s tennis team demonstrated why they are ranked No. 2 by the most recent ITA rankings with the 8-1 win over No. 9 Middlebury on Friday afternoon. The Athenas (15-0) dominated in doubles and then did not miss a beat transitioning into singles play for another win against a top-10 opponent.

Doubles sweep gives Athenas edge over MIT

March 29, 2017

On Wednesday evening, the No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (14-0) women’s tennis team beat No. 20 MIT (11-3) to the tune of 6-3 in a marathon match. The Athenas took an early 3-0 lead after doubles but were then challenged by the persistent Engineers in singles play.
