============ Spring – Women===============

Softball
The Athenas captured their fourth SCIAC Tournament Championship last week thanks to a 9-1 win over Redlands, a 10-1 win over La Verne and a 4-2 rematch win over the Leopards in the tournament championship game. Anna Gurr (CMC ’18) pitched a solid game in the championship and Tara Robinson (CMC ’16) drilled what would turn out to be a game-winning, 2-RBI double in the top of the seventh. CMS (34-8-1, 24-4 SCIAC) will next compete in the NCAA Regionals at Whitworth in Spokane, Wash. against George Fox in the opening game on Friday, May 13 at 3:30 p.m. Live stats and video are available.

Women’s Tennis
With three convincing wins over the weekend, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s tennis team won a share of its sixth consecutive SCIAC Championship. The Athenas beat Caltech 5-0 in the quarterfinals, Redlands 8-1 in the semifinals and Pomona-Pitzer 7-2 in the championship match. Kyla Scott (HMC ’18) clinched the championship for CMS in the singles matches against Pomona-Pitzer, giving the Athenas their 18th conference title. The Athenas will host the NCAA Regionals this weekend, with the women playing at 10 a.m. May 14 against the winner of Trinity (Texas)/UT Tyler (Texas). Live scoring and video are available.

Women’s Track & Field
The CMS track and field teams participated in the Occidental Invite last week. With a majority of athletes at Oxy, the top performers for the Athenas were Carmen Mejia (SCR ’17), who finished fourth among all college participants in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.66, and Sabrine Griffith (CMC ’19), with a fourth-place finish among collegiate participants in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.83. Both teams will compete May 18-19 at the Redlands Final Qualifier before the NCAA Championships in Waverly, Iowa, from May 26-28.

====================== Spring – Men========================

Baseball
The Stags won their 2016 season finale last week against Redlands to close out the year with an 11-26 overall, 9-19 SCIAC record. MacKenzie Menthen’s (CMC ’16) RBI single in the bottom of the third drove in the game-winning run as CMS managed to hold on late for a narrow 7-6 win. CMS closes out the year in eighth place in the SCIAC.

Men’s Golf
After winning the SCIAC Championship two weeks ago, the CMS men’s golf program will now compete in the NCAA Championships at the Mendon Golf Club in Rochester, N.Y., from May 10-13. After the first day of the NCAA Championships (May 10), CMS held a 12-stroke lead over the rest of the field. Follow along throughout the week with live scoring.

Men’s Tennis
The Stags took their first step toward defending their 2015 National Championship with their 11th straight SCIAC Championship over the weekend. CMS defeated Occidental 9-0, Whittier 5-0 and Pomona-Pitzer 6-3, with Patrick Wildman (CMC ’18) clinching the win at No. 5 singles. The Stags will host the NCAA Regionals second and third rounds this weekend, with the men playing at 2 p.m. May 13 against UC Santa Cruz. Live scoring and video are available.

Men’s Track & Field
The CMS track and field teams participated in the Occidental Invite last week. With a majority of athletes at Oxy, the top performer for the Stags was Corbin Betherum (CMC ’19) with a 48.46 time in the 400 meters, good for fourth among college athletes who competed in the event. Both teams will participate May 18-19 in the Redlands Final Qualifier before the NCAA Championships in Waverly, Iowa, from May 26-28.
