=============== Winter – Women===================

Women’s Basketball
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s basketball team clinched its ninth SCIAC conference championship and home-court advantage throughout the SCIAC Postseason Tournament last week. The Athenas continued their SCIAC winning streak, adding victories over La Verne and Cal Lutheran. Sophomore center Kailee Severt (CMC ’18) led the Athenas in points over the course of both games and senior forward Mara Falahee (SCR ’16) pulled down 10 rebounds in each contest. Two games remain on the regular-season schedule for CMS (19-4, 14-0 SCIAC), Feb. 18 vs. Pomona-Pitzer and Feb. 20 at Redlands.

Women’s Swimming & Diving
Both CMS swimming and diving teams had the past week off from competition after a split with Pomona-Pitzer on Feb. 6. The Athenas won eight of a possible 16 events but were edged 152-146 by the Sagehens. The next event for the Stags and Athenas will be the SCIAC Championships from Feb. 18-21 at La Mirada Splash.

====================== Spring – Women========================

Women’s Golf
The Athenas beat Pomona-Pitzer in the Walker Cup match-play event on Feb. 14 at the Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills, their first spring tournament of 2016. Margaret Loncki (CMC ’18) finished as the individual medalist with a 3-over par score of 75, and Kelly Ransom (CMC ’19) and Maya Bhat (CMC ’18) also finished in the top-five for CMS. SCIAC play officially begins this week for the women’s golf program, which will compete at the Tukwet Canyon Golf Club in Beaumont this weekend Feb. 20-21 at the SCIAC No. 1 Tournament.

Women’s Lacrosse
The CMS women’s lacrosse team got its first taste of 2016 competition last week with an exhibition game at St. Mary’s. The Athenas secured a victory in overtime, defeating the Gaels by a final score of 13-12. Regular-season play begins for the Athenas on Feb. 24 at Pomona-Pitzer with their first home game taking place March 2 at Zinda Field.

Softball
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team went 2-1-1, highlighted by a pair of wins over Chapman in its first SCIAC doubleheader of 2016. CMS scored a combined 29 runs in just 12 innings against the Panthers with Carli Roleder (CMC ’18) and Abigail Metsch (SCR ’19) leading the team in RBI. CMS fell 3-2 in the opening game against Pacific (Ore.) on Feb. 13 despite a strong pitching performance by Anna Gurr (CMC ’18). The Athenas earned a tie in the second game against the Boxers after they knotted the score at one in the bottom of the fifth. The 3-2-1 Athenas have a home doubleheader with La Verne scheduled for this week on Feb. 20.

Women’s Tennis
In their only match of the week, the Athenas fell to UC San Diego by a final score of 5-4. Caroline Ward (CMC ’16) and Katie Kuosman (CMC ’17) were the lone pair of Athenas to win in doubles (9-7) while Kuosman, Kyla Scott (HMC ’18) and Jessie Cruz (CMC ’19) each won singles events. CMS (1-1) hosts Brandeis this weekend on Feb. 20, kicking off a four-match home stretch through next week.

Women’s Track & Field
CMS competed at the Alyssa Sialaris Memorial Field Events meet at Whittier College on Feb. 13 and the Athenas won three events.  Vaiva Palunas (SCR ’17) won the discus and shot put and Emily Bassett (CMC ’18) won the hammer throw. CMS competes next on Feb. 20 at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet.

Women’s Water Polo
The CMS women’s water polo team beat Concordia in its first match of the season last week but followed up that with a two losses to Azusa Pacific and Long Beach State for a 1-2 start to 2016. Sophomore attacker Jessica Gaffney (CMC ’18) scored three times in the fourth quarter and had a four-goal game in the win over Concordia. The Athenas have more than two weeks off before their next match on Feb. 25, which will be their home opener against Hawaii at 7 p.m.

====================== Winter – Men========================

Men’s Basketball
The Stags currently hold a four-game winning streak thanks to a pair of wins last week over La Verne and Cal Lutheran and an exciting 51-49 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Feb. 15. Sophomore guard Michael Scarlett (CMC ’18) put up 13 points in each game the week of Feb. 8 and senior forward Jason Harrington (CMC ’16) continued to be a strong addition to the starting lineup with a combined 22 points against La Verne and Cal Lutheran. Center Nick Lund (CMC ’16) scored a team-high 12 points off the bench against Pomona-Pitzer. The 11-10 (6-7) Stags are only one game out of a tie for a playoff position in the SCIAC, where they currently rank fifth.

Men’s Swimming & Diving
Both CMS swimming and diving teams had the past week off from competition after a split with Pomona-Pitzer on Feb. 6. The Stags captured 11 of 16 events to pull away with a 174-124 victory and remain undefeated in SCIAC meets. The next event for the Stags and Athenas will be the SCIAC Championships from Feb. 18-21 at La Mirada Splash.

====================== Spring – Men========================

Baseball
The 2016 CMS baseball program got its season off to a 1-3 start last week with a win over Willamette (Ore.) and losses to The Master’s and the University of Antelope Valley. In the win over the Bearcats, the Stags trailed 4-0 until the bottom of the sixth, when they exploded for seven runs. Jack Witte (CMC ’16) knocked the first home run of the year for CMS, scoring two runs in the process. This week, CMS traveled to La Sierra on Feb. 15 and lost 11-10. The Stags next have a home-and-home series with Pomona-Pitzer on Feb. 19-20 as SCIAC play begins.

Men’s Golf
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s golf team had last week off after taking home first place in its first SCIAC tournament of the season on Feb. 6-7 at Tukwet Canyon Golf Course in Beaumont. Jonathan Shaw (CMC ’18) finished first in the tournament with a two-day score of 148. The Stags have a two-day event this week at the Wente Vineyards Golf Club in Livermore, where they will compete in the East/West Bay Area Invitational on Feb. 15-16.

====================== Club Sports ========================

Men’s Lacrosse
The Claremont Cougars won both games last week, defeating Washington State 15-5 on Feb. 12 and UC Irvine 17-9 on Feb. 13. Logan Miller (CMC ’19) earned the game ball against Washington State for his spectacular play, and Kaegan Ingrasci (PZ ’17) earned the award against UC Irvine. The Cougars will travel to Occidental College to take on the Tigers on Feb. 17.

Men’s Rugby
On Saturday, Feb. 13, the men’s rugby team extended its record to 3-0 with a 50-3 victory over UC Riverside and sits alone atop the conference. The team is next in action when it hosts Cal Lutheran on Saturday, Feb. 20 at Parents Field. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
