Coach Arce Memorial Service Information: A memorial service Celebrating the life of William "Bill" Arce, founding CMS Athletics Director, is scheduled for Sunday, May 1 at Claremont McKenna College. The service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at McKenna Auditorium, followed by a reception at the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum at 2:30 p.m. All are invited to join the Arce Family and CMC in remembering the legacy of Bill Arce as a coach, mentor, teacher, and role model.
======== Spring – Women==========
Women’s Golf
The Athenas won the SCIAC #2 Tournament held April 2-3 but had the past week off from competition to prepare for the SCIAC Championships, which will take place April 24-26 at the Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont. CMS will enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed.
Women’s Lacrosse
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s lacrosse team went 1-1 with an 11-10 road win over Occidental followed by a 12-6 loss to Pomona-Pitzer. Ellen Berkley (CMC ’18) netted four goals in the win and goalie Kate Anello (CMC ’16) made a career-high 15 saves in the loss to the Sagehens. The Athenas remain in third in the SCIAC after their .500 week with a 9-3 overall and 4-2 SCIAC record.
Softball
The CMS softball team had its 10 game winning streak snapped by La Verne on April 9 by a final score of 5-1. It was the only game of the week for the Athenas, who had their second game against the Leopards postponed due to weather. Still in first place at 22-6-1 overall, 15-2 in SCIAC, CMS will play doubleheaders on April 15 against Cal Lutheran and April 16 at Pomona-Pitzer.
Women’s Tennis
Inclement weather prompted the CMS women’s tennis team to postpone its only match of the week against Redlands, which will now take place April 15. From there, the 12-4 overall, 3-1 SCIAC Athenas will play a doubleheader on April 16 with a home match against Occidental and a road match against Chapman.
Women’s Track & Field
Both CMS track and field squads participated in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on April 9. For the Athenas, Tyra Abraham (SCR ’18) set the CMS record for the 200 meter dash at a blazing 24.85.; Aiyanna Cameron-Lewis (CMC ’18) finished second in section one of the 800-meter run; the relay team of Rebecca Stewart (SCR ’18), Carmen Mejia (SCR ’17), Abraham and Cameron-Lewis won the 4x400-meter relay; and Vaiva Palunas (SCR ’17) won the discus throw at 46.62 meters (152-11). This week both teams will compete in The Bryan Clay Invite at Azusa Pacific on April 14-15 before an SCIAC meet on April 16.
Women’s Water Polo
A 10-7 loss to Whittier was followed by a 10-8 victory over Chapman last week for the CMS women’s water polo team, which holds a 7-16 overall, 4-3 SCIAC record. Roxy Kiessling (CMC ’18) scored four times including the game-winner in the fourth quarter to break an 8-8 tie. The Athenas are holding on to fourth place in the conference with one game remaining before the SCIAC Championships, April 13 at Pomona-Pitzer.

Baseball
After last week’s bye week, the Stags will face Redlands in a home-and-home series opening April 15 at Arce Field. The teams will play games two and three of the series at Redlands on April 16. The 8-19 overall, 6-12 SCIAC Stags sit tied with Pomona-Pitzer and Whittier for sixth in the conference.
Men’s Golf
The CMS men’s golf program finished second in its SCIAC #2 Tournament, the final competition before the SCIAC Championships on April 24-26. The Stags finished four strokes behind Cal Lutheran and were led by Jackson Zepf (CMC ’18), who finished tied for eighth with a two-day score of 147. Alex Wrenn (CMC ’19) came in one stroke behind Zepf, which tied him for 12th overall. Earlier in the week, CMS was ranked second overall in NCAA Division III, the highest ranking so far this season for the team, which will go into the SCIAC Championships with the stroke lead.
Men’s Tennis
Before rain ended the match early, the Stags went up 3-0 in doubles over Whittier on April 9. The second match against Azusa Pacific was postponed as well and both will be made up at a later date. Now 19-2 overall, 5-0 in SCIAC play, CMS will play at Redlands on April 15 and at home against Occidental on April 16. Makeup matches vs. Whittier and APU are scheduled for April 19 at 7 p.m.
Men’s Track & Field
Both CMS track and field squads participated in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on April 9. For the Stags, Kyle Lund (HMC ’17) earned second place in section one of the 5,000-meter run; Michael Wagenveld (CMC ’18) finished third in section one of the pole vault; and Cam Van (CMC ’17) ended up third in the triple jump. This week both teams will compete in The Bryan Clay Invite at Azusa Pacific on April 14-15 before an SCIAC meet on April 16.

Women’s Rugby
The Claremont Colleges Women’s Rugby team won the USA Rugby Division III West Region Championship in Riverside this past weekend. The Foxes defeated St. Mary’s (CA) 38-12 in the Semifinal, and the University of San Francisco 27-5 in the Final. The win was truly a team effort with particularly strong performances by Celia Daettals (PZ’16), Ryan Driscoll (CMC’16), and Joey Yamada (CMC’18). As Division III only has regional championships, this ends the Foxes season on a high note.
Men’s Lacrosse
The Cougars fell 19-0 to UC Santa Barbara despite a 16-save performance from goalie Jeff Allen (POM ’17). This week’s game against USC will take place April 12 with the location TBD. The final game of the season will be played on April 16 at Parents Field against Loyola Marymount University.
Men’s Rugby
The Lions defeated a physical Santa Rosa College team 22-0 in its most recent match, but did not have a match during the last week. The win puts the team into the National round of 16 where they will face the University of Denver on April 16. The match will be held at the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo, Calif.
