Athletics Week In Review (Extended Version - Word)
====================== Fall – Women========================
Women’s
Soccer
The Athena soccer team went 2-0 last week, beating Cal Lutheran at
home 4-1 and Whittier on the road 3-0. Sydney
Smith (CMC ’18) scored twice and had one assist in
two games. Darrah Shields (CMC ’16) recorded
two assists as well. CMS (5-2-1) plays at La Verne on Sept. 24 and
returns home to play Occidental at 7 p.m. Sept. 27. The annual
alumni game is on Sunday, Sept. 28.
Women’s
Golf
The Athena golf team competed in the Pt. Loma Fall Preview Golf
Classic at Torrey Pines Golf Course. The team finished in 12th
place but faced some strong Division I programs.
Tiffany Su (CMC ’15) shot low for CMS with
rounds of 81 and 83. The other fall tournament is the Embry-Riddle
Invitational in Prescott, Ariz., on Sept. 28-29.
Volleyball
The Athena volleyball team was 2-0 last week with wins over Caltech
(3-0) and La Verne (3-2). Against Caltech, Crystal
Anderson (CMC ’18) had 10 kills and no errors in 12
total attacks. Over the two matches, Margaux
Arntson (CMC ’18) had a .467 kill percentage and was
involved in two blocks. CMS (11-3) has a big week ahead, traveling
to Whittier on Sept. 23 and conference rival Cal Lutheran on Sept.
26 before returning home to face Pomona-Pitzer at 7 p.m. Sept.
27.
Women’s Cross
Country
The cross country team did not compete last week. CMS next runs in the CS San Bernardino Invitational
and the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 27.

Football
The Stag football team did not compete last week. CMS (1-1) hosts
Chapman at 1 p.m. Oct. 4.
Men’s
Soccer
The Stag soccer team was 1-1 last week, beating La Verne 2-1 but
then losing to Chapman 5-1 on the road. In the game against La
Verne, Jacques Bialostozky (CMC ’17) and
Jaison Kimura (CMC ’15) scored for CMS.
Mehron Abdi (CMC ’17) scored the
Stags’ only goal against Chapman. CMS (2-1-1) plays Caltech
at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at Pritzlaff Field and then travels to Whittier
to take on the Poets on Sept. 27.
Men’s Cross
Country
The cross country team did not compete last week. CMS next runs in the CS San Bernardino Invitational
and the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 27.
Men’s Water
Polo
The Stag water polo team earned its first victory on the season,
beating Fresno Pacific 15-11 in the Lancer Invite at Cal Baptist.
In the second game of the tournament, the Stags lost to Concordia
13-8. In the win, Tanner Cullen (CMC ’16)
led with eight of the team’s 15 goals. Ellison
Taylor (CMC ’17) and Daniel Cogan
(CMC ’16) were next with three goals each. CMS’ (1-8)
only competition this week is at Pepperdine on Sept. 28 in
preparation for hosting the Gary Troyer Tournament Oct.
