====================== Fall – Women========================

Women’s Soccer
The Athena soccer team played two games in very hot weather over the weekend, tying Lewis & Clark (0-0) in overtime and losing to UC Santa Cruz (2-1). Against Lewis & Clark, Darrah Shields (CMC ’16) led the team with six shots, three on goal. Makella Brems (CMC ’17) scored on a penalty kick in the UC Santa Cruz game for the Athenas’ only goal on the weekend. The Athenas (3-2-1) host Cal Lutheran to begin SCIAC play at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Volleyball
The Athena volleyball team was 3-1 in the Trinity Fall Classic in San Antonio, Texas, over the weekend. CMS lost to the host, Trinity (3-0), and beat Texas Lutheran (3-2), Mary Hardin-Baylor (3-1) and Southwestern (3-1).  Audrey Breitwieser (CMC ’16) led the team with 54 kills over the four matches, a .296 kill percentage. Megan Coleman (CMC ’15) totaled more than 100 digs. CMS (9-3) begins SCIAC competition at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19 against Caltech.

Women’s Cross Country
The Athena cross country runners competed in the UC Riverside Invitational over the weekend and CMS was the top Division III program in both the 6000m Invitational and the 5000m Open events. In the 6000m, Bridget Blum (CMC ’16, 21:11) finished fifth overall and was the first non-Division I finisher. CMS finished ahead of five SCIAC teams in the Open event. The top seven Athenas finished within 10 seconds of each other: Breanna Sewell (CMC ’18, 19:33), Olivia Carmo (CMC ’17, 19:34), Amber Scott (CMC ’17, 19:37) and Carmen Mejia (SCR ’17, 19:41), Laura Broderick (SCR ’18, 19:42) and Emma Su (SCR, ’18,19:43) and Kathleen Muenzen (SCR ’17, 19:43). CMS next competes in the CS San Bernardino Invitational and the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 27.

====================== Fall – Men========================

Football
The Stag football team beat Lewis & Clark in its home opener, 36-14. The team had three interceptions, two by Max Winsberg (CMC ’15) and one by Henry Wei (CMC ’17). Quarterback Trey Reynolds (CMC ’17) threw for more than 200 yards, 167 of which were to Tyler Stanek (CMC ’16), including three touchdowns. CMS is now 1-1 and has two bye weekends before hosting Chapman at 1 p.m. Oct. 4.

Men’s Soccer
In the first week of SCIAC competition, the Stag soccer team played two overtime games, tying Pomona-Pitzer (1-1) and beating Cal Lutheran (2-1). Against Pomona-Pitzer, Michael Crowley (CMC ’17) scored the team’s only goal, assisted by Taylor Lemmon (CMC ’16). When playing the Kingsmen, William Cresap (CMC ’17) scored in the first half and then Ian Shelton (CMC ’17) scored the game winner in the second overtime period. CMS (1-0-1) continues conference play at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 against La Verne.

Men’s Cross Country
The Stag cross country runners competed in the UC Riverside Invitational over the weekend and CMS was the top Division III program in both the 8000m Invitational and 8000m Open events. Zorg Loustalet (HMC ’16) led the team with a 34th-place finish in 25:05 in the Invitational. Danyon Anderson (CMC ’18, 26:43), Collin Barraugh (CMC ’18, 26:54) and Kyle Suver (HMC ’18, 27:19) were the team's top three finishers in the Open event. CMS next competes in the CS San Bernardino Invitational and the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 27.

Men’s Water Polo
The Stag water polo team was 1-5 last week in games at Cal Baptist and in the Inland Empire Tournament. CMS lost to Cal Baptist (11-10), La Verne (13-10), Air Force (11-9), UCLA (13-7) and Long Beach State (18-5), but beat Riverside City College (9-8). In the win, Alex Waggoner (CMC ’17) led the team with three goals and James Kelly (CMC ’15) had 11 saves in goal.
