====================== Fall – Women========================
Women’s
Soccer
The CMS women’s soccer team is 3-1 so far after beating
Southwestern (Texas) (2-0) and Pacific Lutheran (1-0) in a
tournament hosted by Cal Lutheran, and then a long weekend trip to
the Boston area, where the Athenas beat Emmanuel (1-0) and
ultimately lost to MIT (1-0) after the game was delayed due to
lightning. In goal, Kelly McConnell (HMC
’17) has amassed more than 150 minutes, had three saves and
given up no goals. The Athenas host Lewis & Clark (Ore.) in
their home opener at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13.
Volleyball
The Athena volleyball team is currently 6-2 and ranked No. 15 in
the country. In the Pacific Coast Classic over Labor Day weekend,
CMS was undefeated, beating St. Scholastica (Minn.) (3-2), UC
Santa Cruz (3-0), Texas-Tyler (3-0) and Kean (New Jersey) (3-0). In
the Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational, the Athenas were 2-2, beating
Augustana (Ill.) (3-0) and George Fox (Ore.) (3-1), but came up
short against the stiff competition of No. 18 Pacific Lutheran
(3-1) and No. 6 Emory (3-0). To date, Megan
Coleman (CMC ’15) has played in all 28 sets and
recorded 168 digs (5.71 per set). Audrey
Breitwieser (CMC ’16) has also played in every set
and has 80 kills (2.86 per set). The Athenas travel to Texas this
weekend for matches against Texas Lutheran, Trinity, Mary
Hardin-Baylor and Southwestern (Texas).
Women’s Cross
Country
The Athena cross country runners competed in the Nationball Classic
in Santa Barbara and won the event, 18-44. Sara
Mostatabi (CMC ’15) won the women’s race at
24:17 on the 4.21-mile course. Several runners improved
dramatically over last year’s race on the same course,
particularly the sophomore Athenas. CMS next competes at the UC
Riverside Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13.
====================== Fall – Men========================
Football
The Stag football team traveled to the Pacific Northwest over the
weekend for its season opener and lost to Puget Sound, 13-10.
CMS scored on a 7-play drive that sophomore quarterback
Trey
Reynolds (CMC ’17) capped with a
10-yard touchdown pass to tight end Chris Cziesla (CMC
’18). The Stags play their first home game this Saturday,
Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. against Lewis & Clark (Ore.).
Men’s
Soccer
The Stag soccer team has played two scrimmages against California
Baptist and Azusa Pacific in preparation for its 2014 season.
During the games, Hogan Marhoefer (CMC ’16)
has had one goal and one assist. CMS begins its SCIAC competition
at Pomona-Pitzer on at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10.
Men’s Cross
Country
The Stag cross country runners competed in the Nationball Classic
in Santa Barbara and won the event, 15-50. Alex
Lombardo (CMC ’17) placed third on the 4.21-mile
course with a time of 21:29, just behind alum Bennett
Naden (HMC ’13), who won the race. This weekend, CMS
competes at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday, Sept.
13.
Men’s Water
Polo
The Stag water polo team traveled to San Diego for its first two
matches of the season and lost to UC Irvine (17-7) and University
of the Pacific (14-5). Tanner Cullen (CMC
’16) led the team with four goals, two in each game. CMS next
takes the pool against Cal Baptist and Riverside City College on
Sept. 10.
