=========== Fall – Women=============

Women’s Soccer
The Athena soccer team went 2-0 last week, easily beating Whittier 5-0 and then edging La Verne 1-0 in overtime. Against Whittier, Darrah Shields (CMC ’16) scored twice. She was joined by Ashley Barnhill (CMC ’15), Katelyn Faust (CMC ’17) and Sara Tweedy (HMC ’15), each with a goal in the game.  In the La Verne match, the 0-0 tie was finally broken in the 100th minute of play when Samantha Kunz (CMC ’15) drilled a free kick into the upper right corner for the game winner. CMS (11-4-1, 8-2 SCIAC) next plays at Occidental (7-4-1, 5-4-1 SCIAC) on Oct. 22 and hosts Redlands (6-5-2, 4-4-2 SCIAC) at 11 a.m. on Oct. 25.

In the two matches she played in, Audrey Breitwieser (CMC ’16) had 24 kills and a .353 kill percentage. Megan Coleman (CMC ’15) had 51 digs over the same two matches, which brings her season average to 5.8 digs per set and should place her into the top 25 in the nation for that statistic. The Athenas (18-5, 9-2 SCIAC) play No. 2-ranked Cal Lutheran (21-1, 10-2 SCIAC) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the Linde Activities Center and then travel across the street to Pomona-Pitzer (14-8, 6-4 SCIAC) on Oct. 24 before returning home again to match up with Occidental (5-16, 3-8 SCIAC) at 6 p.m. Oct. 25.

Sara Mostatabi (CMC ’15) won the women’s race, pulling away over the last mile to win by five seconds in 21:44.1.  The depth of the Athenas was evident as CMS had four of the top 10, nine of the top 17 and 15 of the top 30 overall. Football
The Stag football team faced a mighty Redlands team on Saturday night and lost 31-7. The Stags were shutout at halftime but ultimately scored on a blocked punt that was run in for a touchdown during the fourth quarter. Despite the Stags leading in time of possession and total offensive plays, CMS was unable to recover from four turnovers. Redlands had a few long plays, including a punt return for a touchdown that put the Bulldogs on top. Trey Reynolds (CMC ’17) threw for 114 yards in 16 completions. Max Winsberg (CMC ’15) had an interception and Lucas Owan (CMC ’17) recovered a punt blocked by Nick Nasse (CMC ’15). Owan ran it back 11 yards for CMS’ only touchdown of the night. The Stags (2-3, 1-2 SCIAC) are on the road for another weekend to face Occidental (3-2, 2-1 SCIAC) Oct. 25.
