===================== Spring Sports – Women ====================

Women’s Tennis
The Athenas competed at the NCAA Division III Tennis Championships in Mason, Ohio from May 18-23. The Athenas took fourth place in the team portion of the championships which tied for the highest finish in CMS women’s tennis history. CMS lost to Amherst 5-1 in the third-place match on May 20 after losing to Emory 5-1 in the semifinals the day before. Then in the doubles championships, the Athenas’ team of Caroline Ward (CMC ’16) and Katie Kuosman (CMC ’17) took second place in doubles for the second year in a row, losing to Juli Raventos and Linda Shin, of Williams College (Mass.), 5-7, 7-6(4), 3-6.

Women’s Track & Field
The women’s track and field team competed in the NCAA Division III Championships from May 21-23 in Canton, N.Y. and finished in a tie for 17th place. The Athenas had three All-America finishes with Carmen Mejia (SCR ’17) placing second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.30. This time sets a new personal and CMS record for Mejia, which bested her own top time in CMS history. Hanna Tarleton (CMC ’17) became an All-American in the 400 hurdles with a personal-best time of 1:01.27 to land her in fifth place. Tarleton’s time also put her into the No. 2 spot in CMS history. On the first day of competition, Sara Mostatabi (CMC ’15) earned All-America honors with a seventh place finish in the 10,000 meters at 36:12.75.

===================== Spring Sports – Men ====================

Men’s Tennis
The CMS men’s tennis team competed at the NCAA Division III Tennis Championships in Mason, Ohio from May 18-23. It is here that the Stags became the Division III team national champions, the Division III doubles national champions and the Division III singles national champions. In the team championships, the Stags shut out Middlebury (Vt.) 5-0 to become national champions, CMS’ first since 1981. In the doubles championships, Warren Wood (CMC ’15) and Joe Dorn (CMC ’15) defeated Robert Kjellberg and Sebastian Sikh, from North Carolina Wesleyan, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 to become the doubles national champions. Earlier that day in the singles finals, it was an all Stag affair as Wood faced off against Skyler Butts (CMC ’16) in the championship match, which Wood won 6-1, 6-4.

Men’s Track & Field
The men’s track and field team competed in the NCAA Division III Championships from May 21-23 in Canton, N.Y. and finished in a tie for 56th place. The Stags had two All-Americans this year as Joshua Sealand (HMC ’17) finished sixth in the men’s 1,500 meters with at time of 3:51.80. Sealand’s time was three seconds faster than his qualifying time. Matt Wong (CMC ’17) competed in the men’s long jump and finished in eighth place.

Men’s Rugby (Club)
On April 18, the men’s rugby 7s team won a qualifying tournament, earning a ticket to the National Small Colleges Rugby Organization (NSCRO) Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championships in Philadelphia. This is the first time that Claremont has participated in the event, which runs from May 30-31. The Lions and their trip to Philadelphia are featured in a story which you can read here.
