Athletics Week In Review (Extended Version - Word)

===================== Spring Sports – Women ====================

Women’s Tennis
The Athenas are playing in the final rounds of the NCAA Division III Tennis Team Championships in Mason, Ohio. CMS won its quarterfinal match against Carnegie Mellon on May 18 before losing to Emory in the semifinals on May 19. With the loss, CMS is playing in the third place match against Amherst on May 20. Regardless of the final results of the third place match, CMS has assured itself at least a tie for the best finish in program history. CMS tied for fourth at the NCAA Championships in 2013. CMS also has individuals/doubles participants in the singles/doubles championships May 21-23. Check www.cmsathletics.org for the latest information.

Women’s Track & Field
The women’s track and field team did not compete last week, but will have nine participants compete in the NCAA Track & Field Championships on May 21-23 in Canton, N.Y.

===================== Spring Sports – Men ====================

Men’s Golf
The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team earned a 13th place finish in the NCAA Division III Golf Championships at Grandover Resort that ended on May 15 in Greensboro, N.C. The Stags were led by Kethan Reddy (CMC ’16), who made 17 birdies, and finished in 26th place overall. Jonathan Shaw (CMC ’18), who shot a one-under in one of the rounds, finished in 38th place for the Stags.   

Men’s Tennis
The CMS men’s tennis team is playing in the final rounds of the NCAA Division III Tennis Championships in Mason, Ohio from May 18-20. CMS also has singles/doubles participants in the singles/doubles championships which are from May 21-23. In the team championships, CMS advanced through the quarterfinals and into the semifinals with a win over Johns Hopkins. CMS faced Washington University in the semifinals but results from that match were not complete as of 5:30 p.m. EDT in Ohio. Check www.cmsathletics.org for the latest information.

Men’s Track & Field
The men’s track and field team did not compete last week, but will have four athletes compete in the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships on May 21-23 in Canton, N.Y.

Men’s Rugby (Club)
On April 18, the men’s rugby 7s team won a qualifying tournament and qualified for the National Small Colleges Rugby Organization (NSCRO) Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championships in Philadelphia, Penn. This is the first time that Claremont has participated in the event which runs from May 30-31.
