Women’s Swimming and Diving
The women’s swimming and diving team did not compete this week but select participants will compete March 18-21 at the Division III National Championships in Shenandoah, Texas. Find out more here.

===================== Spring Sports – Women ====================

Women’s Water Polo
The Athena water polo team went 0-3 last week with tough losses at the hands of Bucknell (11-6), Iona (10-8) and Fresno Pacific (8-2). In the loss to Bucknell (Pa.), the Athenas had a balanced scoring attack as six players scored. Against Iona (N.Y.), the Athenas were led by Rose Koper (CMC ’15), who scored four goals, and Jessica Gaffney (CMC ’18), who scored two. In their last game of the weekend, Fresno Pacific seemed to have the Athenas’ number, as only Brittany Arneson (CMC ’17) and Roxy Kiessling (CMC ’18) scored in the loss. The Athenas are now 3-13 overall and are in action next at La Verne at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21.

Women’s Golf
The women’s golf team tied for second at the Collegiate Invitational this past weekend in Jekyll Island, Ga. CMS tied with NYU, only 15 strokes behind Rhodes College (Tenn.), which finished first. Three Athena golfers finished among the top 20 at the tournament. Margaret Loncki (CMC ’15) posted the best performance for the Athenas, as she tied for 13th with her best score coming in round two, when she shot just four-over par. Marissa Suehiro (CMC ’15) and Shaina Raskin (SCR ’15) tied for 15th^, with Raskin in her best round also shooting four over and Suehiro shooting six over. The Athenas compete next in the Walker Cup at Los Serranos at 1 p.m. March 29.

Softball
The Athenas went 3-1 this weekend as they swept their series with Ithaca College (4-3, 6-3) and split their Saturday doubleheader with the Sagehens, winning the first game 11-0 and losing the second 3-2. In the sweep of Ithaca (N.Y.), the Athenas came up big with runners in scoring position as Alexa Heydenberk (CMC ’16), Carly Roleder (CMC ’18) and Shannon O’Neill (CMC ’16) each had two RBIs. In their Saturday doubleheader against the Sagehens, Roleder had the hot bat as she had a home run and three RBIs. Katie Savard (CMC ’16) also had three RBIs that came in the first game verses the Sagehens. The Athenas are now 11-3 overall and 6-2 in conference. CMS travels to Chapman next to take on the Panthers at 3 and 5 p.m. March 20.

Women’s Tennis
The CMS women’s tennis team went 1-1 this week with a victory over Carnegie Mellon 7-2 and a loss to Emory University 5-4. In the win over Carnegie Mellon (Pa.), the Athenas were once again dominant in doubles play as they won No. 1 doubles 8-3, No. 2 doubles 8-6 and No. 3 doubles 8-3. The Athenas then went on to win four of the six singles matches with the only two losses coming in No. 6 singles and No. 4 singles. In their loss to No. 2-ranked Emory (Ga.), the Athenas’ No. 1 doubles team of Caroline Ward (CMC ’16) and Katie Kuosman (CMC ’17) along with the No. 3 doubles team of Lindsay Brown (CMC ’18) and Bria Smith (CMC ’18) won their matches 8-5 and 8-4 respectively. However, Emory was able to earn a victory at No. 2 doubles and continued to win as it took four of six singles matches with the only two wins for CMS coming from Kousman in No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-4) and Kyla Scott (HMC ’18) in No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-7, 10-6). The Athenas are now 8-1 and are next in action verses Trinity (Conn.) at 3 p.m. March 19 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

Women’s Track & Field
The distance runners for the CMS women’s track team competed in the Occidental Distance Carnival this weekend, when Carmen Mejia (SCR ’17) recorded a Division III national-leading time in the 800 meters, taking first with a time of 2:12.00. Mejia’s time is second in CMS and sixth in the SCIAC history. The sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and throwers will compete on Saturday, March 21 at the Westmont Collegiate Classic. The entire team will compete again when it resumes SCIAC competition on March 28 at Pomona-Pitzer.

Women’s Lacrosse
The women’s lacrosse team extended its undefeated streak to six games as it won an overtime thriller verses SUNY New Paltz 17-14. The Athenas’ offense was well balanced as 10 players scored with Christina Coffin (CMC ’16) leading the attack with four goals. The Athenas are in action again on Monday, March 16 as they take on Kean (N.J.) at 7 p.m. on Zinda Field.

===================== Spring Sports – Men ====================

Men’s Golf
The men’s golf team competed in the Collegiate Invitational this past weekend in Jekyll Island, Ga., and came in fifth with a total score of 886. The Stags had two players among the top-20 individually as Jonathan Shaw (CMC ’18) tied for 15th as he shot one-under par in two rounds, and Ben Ho (CMC ’15) tied for 19th as he shot one-over par twice during the weekend. The CMS men’s golf team is back in action in the West Cup Invitation at Beaumont on March 22-23.

Baseball
The Stags went 1-3 this week as they defeated Ithaca 9-8 in extra innings, and were swept in their weekend series by Chapman (4-2, 5-3, 14-3). The Stags won their first game of the season in dramatic fashion after trailing by a run in the bottom of the 11th. With a runner on second, Trey Smith (CMC ’18) stepped up to the plate and hit a two-run shot over the wall in left center. This was Smith’s second home run of the day, and he also had four RBIs and went 3 for 5. Traven Tapson (CMC ’17) pitched three innings for CMS and recorded his first win of the season. Against Chapman, Jack Witte (CMC ’16) led CMS with two RBIs. The Stags are next in action at home against Rutgers-Newark at 3 p.m. March 20.

Men’s Tennis
The CMS men’s tennis team took first place in the Stag-Hen Invitational this weekend as it defeated Wesleyan (Conn.) 8-1, Washington University (St. Louis) 8-1 in the semifinal, and Pomona-Pitzer 8-1 in the final. This is the fourth straight Stag-Hen title for CMS. The Stags completed the tournament with an 18-0 singles record and dropped only three total sets all weekend. Warren Wood (CMC ’15) and Joe Dorn (CMC ’15) led CMC at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Wood and Dorn did not lose a doubles or singles match all weekend. The No.2 -ranked Stags are in action on Tuesday as they face Haverford (Pa.) at 3 p.m. and Swarthmore (Pa.) at 7:30 p.m. at the Biszantz Tennis Center.

Men’s Track & Field
The CMS men’s track and field distance runners competed at the Occidental Distance Carnival on Friday, when Evan Molineux (CMC ’16) won the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:48.51. Molineux’s time was a Division III national-leading time and was second in CMS history and eighth in SCIAC history. The sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and throwers will compete on Saturday, March 21 at the Westmont Collegiate Classic. The entire team will compete again when it resumes SCIAC competition on March 28 at Pomona-Pitzer.

Men’s Rugby
On Wednesday, March 11 the Men's Rugby Team defeated Pepperdine 27-22 to finish their conference schedule 6-0. Also, President Chodosh came out to the Pepperdine match and delivered a halftime talk to the team. The champs secured the #1 seed for the Southern California Playoffs which will be played at Parents Field, CMC, this weekend. The team faces Cal State Northridge at 12:00 p.m. on March 21.

Women’s Rugby
The women’s rugby team did not play this week but is back in action on Saturday, March 28 at Occidental.

Men’s Lacrosse
The Claremont men’s lacrosse team lost to Southern Methodist 15-4 in their only match of the week. The Cougars are now 3-6 and 0-3 overall. Their next game is at home on April 4 at 1 p.m. on Parents Field.
