CMS Athletics Week In Review (1/12 - 1/18)

Athletics Week In Review (Extended Version - Word)

=========== Fall – Women=============

Women’s Basketball
The Athena basketball team went 2-0 last week, beating Whittier 62-48 and La Verne 55-35.  Against La Verne, Mara Falahee (CMC ’16) recorded a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.  Against Whittier, Kris Brackmann (CMC ’17) scored 26 points and went a perfect 12-for-12 from the free-throw line. CMS is now 13-3 overall, 7-0 in the SCIAC. The Athenas face Cal Lutheran  in Thousand Oaks at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 21 and then take on Pomona-Pitzer at 5 p.m. Jan 24 at the Rains Center, located at Pomona College.

Women’s Swimming and Diving
The Athena swimming and diving team defeated La Verne 210-61 in its only meet last week. Against La Verne, the Athenas had two multiple event winners as Courtney Chan (CMC ’17) placed first in the 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle while  Kelly Ngo (CMC ’17) won the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke. CMS now improves to 4-0 in the conference. The Athenas will be back in action on Jan. 24 in an SCIAC double-dual meet with Whittier and Caltech at Pasadena City College.

===================== Winter – Men ====================

Men’s Basketball
The Stag basketball team went 2-0 last week, beating Whittier 90-57 and defeating La Verne 66-39. Against La Verne, Tyler Gaffaney (CGU) scored 30 points and against Whittier, Jack Grodahl  (CMC ’15) had a team-high 23 points. CMS is now 11-3 overall, 4-1 in the SCIAC. The Stags travel to Thousand Oaks to take on Cal Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20, and then play Pomona at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Rains Center, located at Pomona College.

Men’s Swimming and Diving
The Stag swimming and diving team won its only contest last week against La Verne 208-54. Three Stags won multiple events as Matthew Williams (CMC ’17) placed first in the 200-yard free and the 200-yard back, James Stevick (CMC ’15) won the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions, and Graham Spurzem (CMC ’17) placed first in the 50-yard free and 100-yard butterfly. CMC improves to 4-0 in the conference.  The Stags will be back in action on Jan. 24 in an SCIAC double-dual meet with Whittier and Caltech at Pasadena City College.
