=============== Winter – Women=============
Women’s
Basketball
The Athena basketball
team went 2-0 last week, extending its win streak to 13 as it beat
Occidental 63-45 and Whittier 58-39. Against Whittier, Kim
Scamman (CMC ’15) scored 15 points and grabbed seven
rebounds while Alyson Young (CMC ’17) tied
her career and season high with 12 points. CMS is now 17-3 overall,
11-0 in the SCIAC. The Athenas face Chapman at home at 7:30 p.m.
Feb. 4.
Women’s Swimming and Diving
The Athena swimming and diving team defeated Redlands
167-76 and set a pool record along the way. The
Athenas’ 400-yard relay team of Kelly Ngo
(CMC ’17), Stephanie Doi (CMC ’17),
Lorea Gwo (CMC ’18) and LillyBelle
Deer (CMC ’15) broke the four-minute barrier with a
time of 3:59.71 to beat a previous pool record set by CMS in 2011.
CMS improves to 7-0 in the conference. The Athenas will be back in
action on Feb. 7 as they take on Pomona-Pitzer at Axelrood. Diving
begins at 10 a.m. with Senior Recognition and then swimming
competition slated for 11 a.m.

Men’s
Basketball
The Stag basketball team
got back to its winning ways last week with victories over
Occidental (82-51) and Whittier (76-70). Against Occidental, four
Stag starters scored 10 or more points. Jack
Grodahl (CMC ’15) scored 10 points on 4-for-5
shooting. Against Whittier, Tyler Gaffaney
(CGU) recorded a double-double as he scored 31 points and grabbed
10 rebounds. CMS is now 14-4 overall, 7-2 in the SCIAC. The Stags
take on Chapman at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Rains Center in a
match-up of first place teams in the SCIAC.
Men’s Swimming and
Diving
The Stag swimming and
diving team defeated Redlands 172.5-67.5. Two Stags set pool
records on Saturday as Matthew Williams (CMC
’17) broke the record for the 200-yard backstroke, posting a
season-best time of 1:52.32. On the diving board, James
Stevick (CMC ’15) set pool records in the 1- and
3-meter competitions. Stevick’s 3-meter score of 375.20
bested the old record by 20 points and his 1-meter mark of 384.45
was 50 points better than the previous standard. CMC improves to
7-0 in the conference. The Stags will be back in action on
Saturday, Feb. 7 as they host Pomona-Pitzer with diving beginning
at 10 a.m. with Senior Recognition and then the swimming
competition slated for 11 a.m.

Women’s Water
Polo
The Athena water polo
team hosted its home opener versus Hartwick this past Friday.
Despite playing hard, the Athenas lost 11-7. They were led by
Ellen Perfect (CMC ’17), who scored three
goals. The Athenas are now 0-3 and travel to Northridge on Feb. 13
at 3 p.m. seeking their first win of the season.

Men’s Rugby
The Claremont Colleges
men's rugby team played Occidental on Saturday night and overcame a
slow start for a 61-0 win. Nick Urban (Pitzer
’17) scored four of the team’s nine tries to bring his
two-match total to seven. Bobby Chui (CMC
’18) converted eight of nine kicks. Chui has been
successful on 17 of 18 kicks this season. The Lions take on
Azusa Pacific at 1 p.m. Feb. 7 at home on Parents Field.
Women’s Rugby
The Claremont Colleges
women’s rugby team did not have any games during the week.
The team’s match originally scheduled at Cal State Fullerton
is being rescheduled for a later date.
