Athletics Week In Review (Extended Version - Word)
=========== Fall – Women=============
Women’s Basketball
The Athena basketball team went 1-1 last week, beginning its SCIAC
season with a 65-62 victory over La Verne, and then coming up short
against George Fox (Ore.) 63-48. Kimberly
Scamman (CMC ’15) scored a team-high 32 points over
both games while Kailee Severt (CMC ’18)
added 13 points in the win over La Verne. CMS (5-3, 2-0) continues
SCIAC play with a home game Dec. 8 against Caltech, and then hosts
Bethesda Christian University at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13.
Women’s Swimming and Diving
The Athena swimming and diving team hosted Chapman and Occidental
in an SCIAC meet. CMS beat Chapman 202-100, and Occidental 211-83.
In the meet, Maia Presti (CMC ’17) and
Mary Lynn Clark (CMC ’17) won the 1- and
3-meter diving events. Kelly Ngo (CMC ’17)
won three events, including recording the eighth-fastest time in
CMS history for the 200-yard individual medley. CMS next competes
Dec. 12-14 at the Commerce Invitational.

Men’s Basketball
The Stag basketball team did not compete last week. CMS (5-1)
visits West Coast Baptist on Saturday, Dec. 13. In the national
rankings released on Dec. 9, CMS made the top-25 and is ranked
24th. Also, currently the Stags have the top-ranked
scoring defense in Division III, allowing just 50.8 points per
game.
The Stag swimming and diving team hosted Chapman and Occidental in an SCIAC meet. CMS beat Chapman 233-55, and Occidental 211-86. James Stevick (CMC ’15) swept both diving events by almost 100 points in each event. In swimming, CMS won 10 of 14 events. Timothy Storer (CMC ’15) won two individual events: the 200-yard backstroke and 200 IM. Another double winner was Noah Deer (CMC ’18) in the 50-yard freestyle and as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team with Matthew Williams (CMC ’17), Zach Alleva (CMC ’16) and Mike Adams (HMC ’18). CMS next competes Dec. 12-14 at the Commerce Invitational.
