===================== Spring Sports – Women ====================

Women’s Water Polo
The women’s water polo team went 0-1 last week as it dropped a close game to Pomona-Pitzer (8-6). In the game, Rose Koper (CMC ’15) and Shannon Golden (CMC ’17) led the Athenas with two goals apiece.  The Athenas are now 7-1 in SCIAC and 10-15 overall.  Next up for the Athenas are the SCIAC Championships, which run from April 24-26 across the street at Pomona-Pitzer.

Women’s Golf                               
The women’s golf team did not compete last week and is next in action on April 26-28 at the SCIAC Championships at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont.

Softball
The Athenas went 2-0 on Saturday as they swept the Sagehens (2-1, 2-0). In the second game, Athenas pitchers Andrea Jewett (CMC ’17), Molly Rubidoux (CMC ’16) and Anna Gurr (CMC ’18) combined to pitch a shutout. Alexa Heydenberk (CMC ’17) led the team in RBIs on the weekend with two. CMS closes out its regular season with four key conference games this weekend; two at home against Chapman on April 24 (2 and 4 p.m.) and two on the road against La Verne on April 25 (12 and 2 p.m.). The Athenas are currently one game behind first place Whittier in the SCIAC standings.

Women’s Tennis
The CMS women’s tennis team went 2-0 last week, showing complete dominance as it shut out Chapman and Occidental (9-0, 9-0). In No. 1 doubles, CMS’ Katie Kuosman (CMC ’17) and Caroline Ward (CMC ’16) — the No. 1 doubles team in the West — took down Chapman’s top duo of Rachel Fox and Andrea Hammer to start the Athenas’ sweep in doubles. CMS went on from there to sweep singles play as well. Against Occidental, although CMS ran a completely different lineup than normal, which included Lindsay Brown (CMC ’18) at No. 1 singles and Kyla Scott (HMC ’18) at No. 2 singles, CMS still remained completely dominant over Occidental. The Athenas are getting ready for postseason play with four days at the Ojai Tournament, April 23-26.

Women’s Track & Field
The women’s track team competed in the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University and set several top-10 marks for the program. The CMS women’s 4x400 meter relay team of Hanna Tarleton (CMC ’17), Carmen Mejia (SCR ’17), Brina Jablonski (CMC ’18) and Aiyanna Cameron-Lewis (CMC ’18) ran the second-fastest time in Division III in 2015 at 3:50.10. The time also ranks second on CMS’ top-10 list as the team bested its previous time of 3:53.46, posted earlier in the season. Cameron-Lewis (400 meters – 57.53), Tyra Abraham (SCR ’18) (100 meters – 12.29), Tarleton (400 hurdles – 1:03.94), Abraham (200 meters – 25.46), Bridget Blum (CMC ’16) (5,000 meters – 17:14.24), Caroline Willian (CMC ’17) (3,000-meter steeplechase – 11:14.05), Kaitlyn Spees (SCR ’15) (3,000-meter steeplechase – 11:14.44), Amber Scott (CMC ’17) (3,000-meter steeplechase – 11:44.28) and Ellen Seidel (HMC ’17) (pole vault – 3.46m) all registered CMS top-10s for Athenas, in addition to the 4x400 relay team. Abraham's time in the 100 meters is the second-fastest time in program history, seven-one hundredths of a second off her school record time. The Athenas will compete next in the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego on April 25.

Women’s Lacrosse
The women’s lacrosse team went 0-2 this week losing to Chapman (14-8) and Pomona-Pitzer (11-8). In the loss to Chapman, Zoe Pinczower (CMC ’17) and Lauren Clubb (CMC ’18) led the Athenas with three goals apiece. Against Pomona-Pitzer the Athenas were led by Clubb and Mikaela Connell (CMC ’18) who each scored two goals. The Athenas compete in the first round of the SCIAC Championships at Redlands on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Men’s Golf
The CMS men’s golf team did not compete last week; next up for the Stags is the SCIAC Championships on April 26-28.

Baseball
The CMS baseball team won its series (2-1) against Whittier (3-7, 12-9, 5-4). Over the weekend, the CMS bats were hot as Trey Smith (CMC ’18) and John Rizzo (CMC ’15) hit two home runs, while Nolan Anderson (CMC ’18) also homered. MacKenzie Menthen (CMC ’16) batted an impressive .643 over the weekend, going 6-for-6 in one game, scoring three runs and driving in two. The Stags play next at home against Cal Lutheran at 3 p.m. April 22.

Men’s Tennis
The CMS men’s tennis team went 2-0 this week as it closed conference play on Saturday with shutout wins at Chapman and at home against Occidental. The Stags faced little resistance in doubles all day, with the exception of Warren Wood’s (CMC ’15) and Joe Dorn’s (CMC ’15) come-from-behind win in No. 1 doubles at Chapman. Nik Marino (CMC ’15) earned his 100th career singles victory at Chapman and made it 101 against Occidental. CMS is now 23-2 overall and will host Vanguard at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

Men’s Track & Field
The men’s track and field team competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University, where several Stags recorded top-10 marks. In the men’s triple jump, Matt Wong’s (CMC ’17) mark of 14.45 meters ranks fourth on CMS’ top-10 list and in the top 5 nationally in Division III for 2015. Cam Van (CMC ’17) also had a top-10 mark in the triple jump (14.09). The field events were the area where the Stags found the most success at the APU Invite. In addition to Wong and Van’s triple jump, Wong also had a top-10 mark (7.03m – 7th ) in the long jump while Van had a top-10 mark in the high jump (1.95m – 9th), which tied his previous best. In the pole vault, Michael Wagenveld (CMC ’18) broke into the Stags' top-10 at sixth (4.61m). The Stags will compete next in the Triton Invitational at UC San Diego on April 25.
