===================== Spring Sports – Women ====================
Women’s Water Polo
The women’s water polo team went 2-0 last week with wins over Whittier (10-7) and Chapman (7-5). In their victory over Whittier, Brittany Arneson (CMC ’17) led the Athenas with three goals while against Chapman, Jessica Gaffney (CMC ’18) led the Athenas with four goals. The Athenas are now 10-14 overall and atop SCIAC with a perfect 7-0 record. The Athenas are in action next against the Sixth Street rivals, Pomona-Pitzer, at home at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Women’s Golf
The women’s golf team did not compete this week and is next in action on April 26-28 at the SCIAC Championships at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont.
Softball
The Athenas went 2-2 over the weekend, sweeping Cal Lutheran (5-1 and 8-0) and dropping two games to Whittier (4-1 and 8-4). Katie Savard (CMC ’16) hit .545 on the weekend with two triples while Carlene Roberts (CMC ’16), Alexa Heydenberk (CMC ’17) and Briana Halle (CMC ’18) hit home runs. Elaine Wang (CMC ’18) led the team with three RBIs against Cal Lu. CMS (20-10, 14-8) is now in second place in SCIAC and host Pomona-Pitzer (13-19, 8-12) in a doubleheader at noon and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18.
Women’s Tennis
The CMS women’s tennis team went 2-0 last week with a win over Pomona-Pitzer (6-3) and a win over Caltech (9-0). In the victory over Pomona-Pitzer, the No. 1 doubles team of Caroline Ward (CMC ’16) and Katie Kuosman (CMC ’17) along with the No. 2 doubles team of Sarah Kukino (CMC ’15) and Kyla Scott (HMC ’18) won 8-3. Ward, Kukino, Lindsay Brown (CMC ’18) and Scott went on to win their singles matches to give CMS the 6-3 win over Pomona-Pitzer. The Athenas are next in action at home against Chapman at 2 p.m. April 17.
Women’s Track & Field
The women’s track team won its last SCIAC multi-dual meet of the season, defeating Caltech, Chapman, Cal Lutheran and Whittier. The Athenas defeated Cal Lu 112-41, Caltech 136-10, Chapman 125-19 and Whittier 133-12. The Athenas won 13 events on Saturday and 10 of the event times or marks broke into the Athenas’ top-10 list. Hanna Tarleton (CMC ’17) participated in three winning events: the 400-meter hurdles (62.83), 4x100 meter relay (47.78) and 4x400 meter relay (3:54.96). Tarleton teamed with Madison Knaub (CMC ’15), Aiyanna Cameron-Lewis (CMC ’18) and Tyra Abraham (SCR ’18) in the 4x100 win. Tarleton, Carmen Mejia (SCR ’17), Brina Jablonski (CMC ’18) and Cameron-Lewis were the winning 4x400 team as they finished roughly 16 seconds ahead of the next-closest team. Double winners for the Athenas were Abraham (4x100 and 100-meter dash), Knaub (4x100 and 200-meter dash), Amy Hollshwandner (CMC ’17) (100-meter hurdles and long jump), Cameron-Lewis (4x100 and 4x400 relays) and Vaiva Palunas (SCR ’17) (shot put and discus). Palunas’ shot put (40-6.75) and discus (144-5) marks ranked in the top 10 all-time for CMS. Other event winners for Athenas not already mentioned were Bryn McKillop (SCR ’18)( 800 meters – 2:17.65), Ellen Seidel (HMC ’17)(pole vault – 11-3.75), Elizabeth Lee (HMC ’17) (triple jump – 35-9.50) and Emily Bassett (CMC ’18) (hammer throw – 164-6). Next up for the Athenas is the Azusa Pacific Invite on Friday, April 17.
Women’s Lacrosse
The women’s lacrosse team went 1-1 this week, with a loss to Redlands (15-9) and a victory over Whittier (16-5) on senior night. Against Redlands, the Athenas were led by Zoe Pinczower (SCR ’17) and Joanna Heywood (CMC ’17), who each scored two goals. In the win over Whittier, Mikaela Connell (CMC ’18) led the Athenas with four goals. The Athenas are next in action on Wednesday when they take on their Sixth Street rival, Pomona-Pitzer, at 7 p.m. on Zinda Field.

Men’s Golf
The CMS men’s golf team competed in the SCIAC #2 Tournament and finished in third place with a two-round score of 4-over par 580 on the par-72 course, seven strokes behind team champion Redlands, which shot a 573. Jonathan Shaw (CMC ’18) led the way for CMS at the tournament as he finished in fourth place with a 2-under 142. Shaw put together a consistent performance with rounds of 71 each day. The Stags compete next at the SCIAC Championships on April 26-28 at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont.
Baseball
The CMS baseball team was swept by Redlands (16-0, 6-4, 14-1) this past weekend. On Saturday in the first game, MacKenzie Menthen (CMC ’16) went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. In the second game, Trey Smith (CMC ’18) hit a double and scored the Stags’ only run as Christian Hoxsie (CMC ’15) came up with the hit that drove in Smith. The Stags (5-27, 3-18) are next in action against Whittier at home at 3 p.m. April 17.
Men’s Tennis
The CMS men’s tennis team went 2-1 this week with wins over Pomona-Pitzer (6-3) and Caltech (9-0) but dropped a tough one to Division II No. 11 Azusa Pacific (5-4). In the win over the Sagehens, the Stags’ only win in doubles came when the No. 1 team of Joe Dorn (CMC ’15) and Warren Wood (CMC ’15) defeated Connor Hudson and Kalyan Chadalavada of Pomona-Pitzer (9-7). From there, CMS came out and dominated singles play, winning every match except at No. 1 singles. The Stags are next in action at Chapman at 10 a.m. April 18.
Men’s Track & Field
The men’s track and field team competed in its last SCIAC multi-dual meet of the season this weekend and went 4-0 over Caltech, Chapman, Cal Lutheran and Whittier. The wins this weekend make the Stags a perfect 8-0 in SCIAC dual meets this season. The Stags defeated Chapman 140-14, Caltech 142-21, Cal Lu 104-58 and Whittier 126-36. The Stags had four double event winners, with three of those athletes coming from the winning 4x400 meter relay team. John Dewald (CMC ’17), Justin Jones (HMC ’15), Evan Molineux (CMC ’16) and Josh Sealand (HMC ’17) won the 4x400 with a time of 3:25.32. Jones also won the 400 meters (50.22) while Sealand won the 800 meters (1:55.30) and Molineux won the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:44.81). The other double event winner came in the field events when Cam Van (CMC ’17) won the high jump (6-2.75) and the triple jump (46-11.00). His triple jump mark landed in CMS’ top 10. Other event winners were Garrett Ryan (CMC ’17) (1,500 meters – 3:59.41), Chad Redman (CMC ’15) (400 hurdles – 55.83), Dewald, Michael Wagenveld (CMC ’18) (pole vault – 14-5.50), Matt Wong (CMC ’17)(long jump - 22-8.50), Sam Perrella (CMC ’15) (hammer throw – 173-10) and Joshua Naon (CMC ’15)(javelin– 141-3). Next up for the Stags is the Azusa Pacific Invite on Friday.

Men’s Rugby
The Claremont men’s rugby team competed in the PacWest Regional Championship this weekend and defeated New Mexico Highlands University 39-24 in the semis. However, the Lions fell just short in the championship game as they lost to California Maritime Academy 33-22.
Women’s Rugby
The Foxes now transition to the seven-a-side game, hoping for a berth in the National Small College Rugby Organization’s National Championships in early May.
Men’s Lacrosse
The Claremont men’s lacrosse team played in their last contest of the season on Saturday where they lost to Chapman 16-5. Leading the offensive charge for the Cougars was Alex Brugger (CMC ’15) who scored two goals. The Cougars finish the season 3-8 overall and 0-5 in the SLC division.
