CMS Claims 10th-Straight SCIAC All-Sports Trophy

SCIAC All-Sports Standings Release

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. - For the 10th-straight year and 30th time in program history, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletic Department claimed the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Combined All-Sports Trophy. The Athenas earned 94 points this season and won the All-Sports Trophy on the women's side by a 19-point margin, claiming their eighth-straight and 23rd overall. The Stags finished third in the standings on the men's side with 65.5 points. Pomona-Pitzer won the men's All-Sports Trophy.

"Indicative of the strength of our conference this was another competitive year from start to finish," said CMS Director of Athletics Terry Tumey. "We are honored to be able to represent the SCIAC by claiming the All-Sports Trophy and are looking forward to an exciting spring of NCAA Championships."

The Stags and Athenas claimed a total of 10 SCIAC Regular Season Championships and added six more SCIAC Tournament Titles in men's basketball, men's tennis, women's lacrosse, softball, women's tennis, and women's volleyball. A total of 15 teams have competed or will compete in the NCAA National Tournament or National Championship events, including the 2017 National Champion women's volleyball team.

The Stags claimed three SCIAC Championships in the regular season with men's basketball, men's golf, and men's tennis topping the field. In addition to their regular season titles, men's basketball and men's tennis earned tournament titles to highlight the Stags effort during the 2017-18 season.

The women's side is where CMS won the All-Sports Trophy. In the 11 women's sports that the SCIAC sponsors, CMS earned seven SCIAC Championships and four more conference tournament titles. Basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, tennis, track and field, and volleyball won SCIAC Titles on the women's side with lacrosse, softball, tennis, and volleyball clinching their tournaments.

While the race for the SCIAC All-Sports Trophy is over, CMS is still competing in eight different sports at the national level. The No. 2 women's golf team is currently tied atop the leaderboard at the NCAA National Championships after Day One. This weekend, women's lacrosse and softball will begin their National Tournament run. Softball heads to McMinnville, Ore. to take on Linfield and George Fox in regional play while women's lacrosse ships out to Colorado Springs, Colo. to take on the Colorado College Tigers in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.

The men's and women's tennis teams are also in action this weekend with the Stags and Athenas hosting the NCAA Regionals at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center, starting on Thursday and wrapping up on Saturday afternoon.

Next week, men's golf tees off in the NCAA Championships in North Carolina and at the end of the month members of the men's and women's track and field teams will head to La Crosse, Wis. for the National Championship Meet.
