Matthew Fenton joins Claremont-Mudd-Scripps staff as SID

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Matthew Fenton, formerly the sports information director (SID) at Cairn University (Pa.), has been selected as the next Claremont-Mudd-Scripps SID. Fenton started with CMS on Aug. 8.

During the 2016-17 school year, Fenton served as the SID at Cairn where he directed the communications efforts for the department's 12 NCAA Division III athletic programs. At Cairn, Fenton refreshed the athletic department's website and social media pages, expanded Cairn Athletics' footprint in new media with the creation of Instagram and YouTube pages, developed team-specific recruiting brochures, and implemented a new visual identity for the department.

Fenton, a three-year member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), presented on social media at the 2017 CoSIDA National Convention in Orlando. Also this year, he presented on social media and design at the ECAC-SIDA Convention.

Prior to his tenure at Cairn, Fenton spent two years at Messiah College (Pa.) as a graduate assistant in the athletics communication department, and one year as an intern. At Messiah, Fenton was involved in the marketing, promotion and coverage of the program's 22 Division III teams. Fenton completed his Master of Arts in higher education at Messiah in 2016. His M.A. focused on college athletic management. In 2013 at Messiah he received a Bachelor of Science in marketing, and also minored in sport management, and accounting.

As a former baseball player at Messiah, Fenton is extremely passionate about Division III athletics and promoting its student-athletes. As the CMS sports information director, Fenton is tasked with overseeing the CMS Athletics website, (cmsathletics.org), social media pages, live broadcasting efforts, branding, photography, video content, media relations and coverage of each of CMS' 21 teams.
