Policy and Procedures

Hours of Service

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. during the academic year unless otherwise posted. Hours on weekends and outside the academic calendar are established based upon the needs of the individual sport programs. Counter Services begin at 9 a.m.

Athletic Equipment Issuance

Claremont Mudd Scripps Athletics provides only the highest quality equipment with optimum safety features to its student-athletes. Each head coach is responsible for scheduling the issuance of equipment with the athletic equipment room. Student-athletes are eligible to receive equipment when they have achieved the following:

  1. NCAA clearance from the compliance office;
  2. Medical clearance from the head athletic trainer

Prior to receiving equipment, all student-athletes are required to complete an equipment sizing chart (see link below), and complete fitting procedures as applicable. The director of equipment operations and head coaches are responsible for educating the student-athlete as to applicable NCAA rules regarding equipment usage and its return.

Each item that is issued to the student-athlete will be distinctly marked with a specific inventory control barcode. In some cases, this mark may be, the game or jersey number. The identifying mark is kept in the student athlete’s online profile only accessible to the athletic equipment staff, and the student-athlete to whom the item is issued will be responsible for it. All items issued are to be worn or used for their intended purpose only (athletic related activities). Game uniforms should not leave the facility unless traveling to and from an away competition site. These pieces will be issued and returned on a game-by-game basis.

Athletic Equipment Return

The return of athletic equipment issued by the Athletic Equipment Room from the Student-Athlete will occur within 14 days of completion of the last competition date (e.g., end of season, end of NCAA Post season play, player is dismissed from roster.) If athletic equipment is not returned to the Athletic Equipment Room within this 14-day period, the Director of Equipment Operations will submit requests to the student accounts office to place holds on the student account delaying graduation, release of diploma, grades etc. This hold will be lifted once the Student-Athlete has returned the missing equipment, and/or paid missing charges (special circumstances will be determined by the Director of Equipment Operations and Athletics Business Manager). Senior student-athletes who have completed their eligibility may be allowed to keep certain items at the discretion of their head coaches and the Director of Equipment Operations. However, the value of such items will count toward the dollar limit on athletics awards.

Laundry

Laundry loops will be distributed to each student-athlete to facilitate laundering of practice gear and affiliated athletic apparel. The athletic equipment room will only wash those items, department issued and personal, that were worn for practice or contest related activities. College issued apparel worn for practice and competition must be returned to the equipment room immediately after each practice or competition for laundering. To maintain uniform integrity, all competition uniforms must be returned for laundering by the student-athlete, regardless of whether or not they competed. If items cannot be returned immediately following practice or contests, the competition worn articles must be returned before practice the following day. Student-athletes, relatives or friends are not permitted to launder uniforms on their own. The Coaching staff will be responsible for laundering services when individuals/teams are away from campus for an extended length of time (e.g. tournaments, NCAA championships, etc.). Laundry services are also provided to visiting non-conference teams as well as NCAA Championship teams on site upon request.
